Last week, Environment Minister Jane Davidson published an Energy Route Map which aims to generate all Wales' electricity from renewable energy sources by 2025. Prof Cooke said, "Currently, CO2 emissions per head in Wales, at 14.2 tonnes per head per year, are the third highest in Europe and the 12th highest globally, even though much of Wales is rural and sparsely populated. But tourists, of whom Wales has around 12 million a year, push our total emissions much higher. "Although tourists tend to come to Wales for quite short periods, they are responsible for higher CO2 emissions through heating and lighting, car use and waste." Prof Cooke said, "I'm not saying Wales should be deterring visitors. Obviously tourism is a very important part of the Welsh economy.

The trainer will tell you and the strength coach will sometimes tell you if the guy could've come back earlier on a sprained ankle. Can he play with some pain? What's he like out of that environment? Sometimes it's hard for college coaches to say 'This guy is a bad guy.' And it's on us to go do our research.'' .

On Thursday, at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, Sen. John McCain stood before thousands of conservatives he has done his level best to anger and alienate for a decade -- to ask for their support. And he made a not unconvincing case. What he said essentially was this. We have fought each other in the past, and we have fought side by side. And I admit to having made my share of mistakes. But if we do not work together, we lose the presidency. And if we lose the presidency, your causes will be lost, as well as my last chance to be president. But if you will work with me, many of the causes for which you have fought -- one more justice like Roberts and Alito, retention of the Bush tax cuts, further reductions in tax rates, a more secure border -- will be taken up as the causes of my presidency.
Environmental emphasis puts Hub, Cambridge on 'green' list
All that "green living" and pedaling hasn't been ignored. For these and other ecological efforts, Boston and Cambridge were named two of America's 50 Greenest Cities in the March issue of Popular Science magazine. The magazine used data on energy conservation from the US Census Bureau and surveys conducted by the National Geographic Society of cities with more than 100,000 people. The rankings were based on four categories - electricity; transportation; "green living," which involves the number of buildings that are certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, Green Building Rating System, as well as the areas devoted to public parks; and "recycling and green perspective." For the administration of Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston, the award was vindication.
